SKU: EXE5325
This cast-molded pressurized resin scale model of the Gemini IV Capsule comes in 1:24 scale and is rendered in fine detail. It includes a wooden display base and features a removable hatch to view the capsule's interior. This collectible capsule model measures 4" wide by 5" high. All parts of replica are rendered to the scale of its real-life counterpart, adding to its authenticity. Recommended for Ages 12+ The actual Gemini IV measured 7 feet, 6 inches long by 8 feet, 3 inches high, and weighed 3020 pounds. The RCS (reentry control system) regulated the capsule's ability to withstand the effects of heat and physics. The 23.5-foot tether umbilical cord enabled the spacewalk to happen. The capsule contained a communications system and a digital guidance computer with a core memory, the first of its kind to be used in space. In 1965 it took flight, it's primary mission to prove the ability of mankind to remain in space for extended periods of time. Its secondary objective was for the US to perform its own spacewalk. Eleven experiments were conducted during Gemini IV's mission, ranging from measuring radiation in space to the medical effects upon the astronauts. The mission's legendary highlight was the first spacewalk by an American, wherein astronaut Ed White floated free for 23 minutes outside the spacecraft while tethered to it.
