This Die-cast metal airplane model comes in 1:155 scale with plastic stand and is approximately 5 3/4 inches long with 8 inch wingspan. Adult Collectible ages 14+ The B-17 Flying Fortress was a four-engine heavy bomber developed by Boeing for the United States Army Air Corps. It was a high-flying, long-range bomber, heavily used in World War II for daylight precision bombing of strategic military targets. It was highly effective and reliable, and developed a reputation of being able to return to its home base despite extensive battle damage. This B-17 was delivered to the United States Army Air Forces in 1945 and placed into storage. In 1946 having never flown in combat the aircraft was transferred to the United States Coast Guard where is served saving people stranded at sea. In 1986 the aircraft was purchased and restored by The Yankee Air Museum in Michigan. The B-17 was given the name Yankee Lady and painted in the style of historic WWII era aircraft. The Yankee Lady is open to the public for flight experience rides.
